(administered by the Brickbat Herald)

1 June 2001, A.S. XXXVI

Kingdom of Atenveldt

Unto Dame Elsbeth Anne Roth, Laurel Queen of Arms; Master Pietari Pentipoika, Pelican King of Arms; and the commenting Members of the College of Arms,

Greetings from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald!

The Atenveldt College of Heralds requests the consideration and registration of the following names and armory with the College of Arms. Unless specifically stated, the submitter will accept spelling and grammar corrections; assistance in these areas is appreciated.

1. Atenveldt, Kingdom of: NEW BADGE

(fieldless) An alembic flask azure charged with a sun Or.

The charge could be alternately blazoned as a retort. If registered, it will be associated with the Kingdom's herbalist guild.

2. Katlin von Kappel: NEW BADGE

Per saltire sable and gules, four fleurs-de-lys, bases to center, Or.

The name was registered December 1996.

3. Kayleigh von Brückenheim: DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, February 2001

Or, two artist's brushes crossed in saltire sable between flaunches azure each charged with a tower Or.

The name was registered April 2000.

The previous submission (Or, an artist's brush and a reed pen inverted in saltire sable between flaunches azure each charged with a tower Or.) was returned for the use of two similar but non-identical charges on the device, a practice which has been prohibited. Changing the pair to identical charges solves this problem.

4. Saint Vladimir, Incipient College of (Northern Arizona University): NEW NAME and DEVICE

Saint Vladimir was the first Christian sovereign of Russia, accepting Christianity (and marrying the Byzantine emperor Basil II's sister) in 987 (Encyclopedia of Russian and Slavic Myth and Legend, Mike Dixon-Kennedy, ABC-CLIO, Santa Barbara CA, 1998, p. 303).

5. Saint Vladimir, Incipient College of: NEW DEVICE

Argent, an angel argent, winged and garbed gules, crined, cuirassed and shod sable, maintaining in its dexter hand a spear bendwise and in its sinister an open book argent, in chief a laurel wreath gules.

Without a halo, one might argue that this isn't an angel, either, but merely a winged man.

This is close to Francesca d'Angelo le Noir's device: Argent, a brunette angel proper, winged and vested sable. A significant amount of the figure is gules, rather than sable, and while rather squished into the chief (it is possible to have too much of a good thing...some Charge Chow Lite might be in order), hopefully that will provide the second CD required to avoid conflict.

This letter contains 1 new name, 1 new device, 2 new badges, and 1device resubmission. A check to cover fees will be sent separately.

I remain,

Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy
