Unto Olwynn Laurel; Juliana Pelican; Istvan Wreath; and the commenting Members of the College of Arms, Greetings from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald and Parhelium Herald for the Kingdom of Atenveldt!
The Atenveldt College of Heralds requests the consideration and registration of the following names and armory with the College of Arms. Please note: Unless specifically stated, the submitter will accept any spelling and grammar corrections; all assistance is appreciated.
1. Elnor Howard: NEW BADGE (Fieldless) Two hawk's lures in fess azure and gules conjoined to an annulet Or.
The name was registered November 2009.
The badge uses elements of her registered device Per fess azure and Or, three hawk's lures Or and a hawk striking gules.
2. Fiona inghean Mheg Uidhir: NEW BADGE (Fieldless) A cow statant gules.
The name was registered September 2008.
The badge uses elements of her registered device, Vert, a cow statant and in chief three annulets enfiled by an arrow fesswise reversed Or.
3. Gelleia de Horslaporte: NEW NAME and DEVICE Quarterly azure and argent, a butterfly counterchanged.
Gelleia is a feminine given name, a pet form of the Latinized form of Juliana. It is found in England, dated to 1221. (Academy of Saint Gabriel Report 2357, http://www.panix.com/~gabriel/public-bin/showfinal.cgi/2357.txt ). de Horslaporte is an English locative dated to 1199, 1200, “dweller near or outside the town or castle-gate” (“Misplaced" Names in Reaney and Wilson, Jeanne Marie Lacroix, http://heraldry.sca.org/laurel/names/misplacednamesbyheader.htm ). The client desires a female name.
4. Jeuls de Caen: NEW NAME and DEVICE Argent, three piles inverted in point azure, in dexter chief a basil leaf vert.
Jeuls is the client's legal given name (a photocopy of his driver's license is provided for Laurel). Caen is the capital of Calvados department in Normandy in northern France; a university, founded in 1432 by Henry VI of England, is located there. Historical landmarks include the 11th-century Abbaye-Aux-Hommes founded by William the Conqueror; the Abbaye-Aux-Dames founded (1066) by William's wife Matilda; and the Church of Saint-Pierre. Caen served as the capital of Normandy under William the Conqueror. It was captured by the English in 1346 and was ruled by them 1417-1450. ( http://www.discoverfrance.net/France/Provinces/Normandy.shtml ). It appears as a period place name in La Guide des Chemins de France, published by Charles Estienne in Paris in 1552, p. 123 ( http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k102662d/f140.image.pagination ). “Names from a 1587 Tax Roll from Provins,” Aryanhwy merch Catmael ( http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/french/provins1587.html ) contains several toponymics of the form "de [city name]" recorded in a 1587 tax roll from a small town near Paris, including "de Bloys", "de Fleury", and "de Montigny"; “de Caen" seems to be a plausible construction for the period and linguistic context to which "Caen" is documented. The client desires a male name and will not accept Major or Minor changes to the name.
I was assisted in the preparation of the Letter of Intent by Aryanhwy merch Catmael and Coblaith Muimnech.
This letter contains 2 new names, 2 new devices and 2 new badges. This is a total of 6 items, all of them new. A check to cover fees will be sent separately.
Thank you again for your great indulgence and patience, your expertise and your willingness to share it.
I remain,
Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy c/o Linda Miku 2527 East 3rd Street; Tucson AZ 85716 atensubmissions.nexiliscom.com brickbat@nexiliscom.com
