ATENVELDT COLLEGE OF HERALDS 1 May 2019, A.S. LIV

LETTER OF PRESENTATION Kingdom of Atenveldt

Unto Their Royal Majesties Morgan and Elizabeth; Baron Seamus MacDade, Aten Principal Herald; Heralds in the Atenveldt College of Heralds; and to All Whom These Presents Come,

Greetings of the New Year from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald and Parhelium Herald for the Kingdom of Atenveldt!

Please have commentary to me on the proposed submissions for the May Letter of Intent by 20 May 2019. Thank you!

Please consider the following submissions for the May 2019 Atenveldt Letter of Intent:

Catalina Margherita fil Abraham (Twin Moons): NEW DEVICE
Argent, seven mullets in annulo purpure.
The name appears in the 15 February 2019 Atenveldt Letter of Intent.

Donngal de Buchanan (Granholme): NEW BADGE

Vert, a hand within an orle of chain surmounted in base by a mullet Or.

The name was registered December 2003.

The client was knighted 5 November 2005.

The default hand is a dexter (right) one, apaumy and couped (makes for a short blazon, like the one used here!). The placement of the mullet on the orle of chain follows the example of several badges registered to Rhodri Longshanks (an example: Argent, on a torteau an ermine spot Or, a double tressure surmounted by six rustres azure.).

Kathryn De Feuer (BoA): DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, June 2017.

Vert, in pale a nautilus argent and a goblet argent charged with a rose vert.

The name was registered June 2017.

The previous submission, Vert, in pale a rose within a stag's antler conjoined to itself in annulo and a goblet argent., was returned for blurring the distinction between co-primary charges and primary/secondary charges. “The attire crosses the fess line, pushing the goblet to base, but they have similar visual weight. The rose, in contrast, is much, much smaller, visually the size of a tertiary charge. However, given its arrangement, it is considered to be co-primary. This device is also returned for having three different charges in the same charge group. If drawn so that all three charges have more or less equal weight and are co-primary, this device would have three different charges in the primary charge group, which is grounds for return.”
This is a slight redesign. The goblet juuuust crosses the fess line, and I hope that it can still be considered a co-primary with the shell; the rose now appears on the goblet, making it an acceptable tertiary charge. The Pic Dic refer to the upper charge as a “snail shell” (and it matches it exactly!). I tend to agree with this, mostly because I envision a nautilus, particularly one that isn't a nautilus shell one with the molluscy, many-tentacled resident peeking its head out.

Kolli Makanarson (Twin Moons): NEW BADGE

Sable, a wasp statant within a chaplet of thorns Or.
The name was registered June 2018.

The chaplet of thorns is found in the arms of Thornton, c.1525 (https://mistholme.com/?s=chaplet). While most insects are found tergiant (as though looking down on a pin-board), the profile appearance doesn't seem to be a posture that is too unlikely; it shows the elongated abdomen and the slender “wasp-waist” of the insect. Wasps are conflict-checked against Bees.

The following appear in the April 2019 Atenveldt Letter of Intent:

Commentary for this letter was provided by Iago ab Adam, Lyn of Whitewolfe and Seamus mac Riain.

Aimée Douglas and Dougal MacPherson the Tall (Windale): NEW JOINT BADGE: Per bend sinister vert and azure, four pairs of human footprints in bend sinister argent.

Daniel Theoson of Mightrinwood (BoA): NEW DEVICE: Purpure, a sun of eight wavy rays sable fimbriated and a bordure dovetailed Ot.

The name was registered July 2008.
The registered arms of Theo of Mightrinwood are
Purpure, a sun of eight wavy rays sable, fimbriated Or. The client has received Permission to Conflict from the executor of Theo's estate, and this requires only one DC to conflict from his father's armory (with the addition of the bordure dovetailed).

Lyn of Whitewolfe (BoA): NEW AUGMENTATION OF ARMS: Gules, a pile wavy bendwise issuant from sinister base between two roundels argent each charged with a rose gules, barbed and seeded proper, and as an augmentation in canton a sunburst Or issuant from clouds argent.

The name was registered April 1985. The client's arms, Gules, a pile wavy bendwise issuant from sinister base between two roundels argent each charged with a rose gules, barbed and seeded proper., was registered December 1985. The Augmentation of Arms was awarded to the client 30 March 2019.

Orabilis Douw (BoA): NEW HOUSEHOLD NAME and NEW BADGE, “Catwolf Keep”: Sable, a chatloup rampant within a masculyn argent.

Orabilis Douw (BoA) : BADGE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, January 2019: Per saltire gules and sable, in fess a dragon and a Greek sphinx rampant contourny each maintaining a sword, their tails entwined argent, a bordure embattled ermine.
The name was registered July 2017.

The previous submisssion, Per saltire gules and sable, in fess a dragon maintaining a sword and a Greek sphinx rampant contourny maintaining an arrow, their tails entwined argent, a bordure embattled ermine., was returned by Laurel for “violation of SENA A5E3, which generally limits complexity of armory to eight tinctures and charge types. The submitted badge features four tinctures (argent, sable, gules, ermine) and five charges (dragon, sword, griffin, arrow, and bordure), for a total complexity count of nine.”

Both monsters now maintain charges, reducing the total complexity count to eight.

Seinean Velte (BoA): NEW NAME and DEVICE
Per bend sinister argent and gules, two frogs bendwise heads to center counterchanged sable and argent.

Seinean Brueckner was born 8 Nov 1558 in Cannstatt u. Stuttgart, Württemberg, Deutschland (in Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500-1985, Ancestry.com); a copy is attached. I'm at a loss to read the old script. However, there is a similar name in familysearch.org.: Sinion Burckhart has a christening date of 17 Aug 1575 in Biberach (OA. Biberach), Württemberg, Germany (Batch C92381-1 , https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NCF8-XLG). Elsam Velte was married 28 July 1607 in Gross Bieberau, Hessen Germany; her father was Leonhart Velte ( Batch M93209-1, https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N8ZR-WLP).

The client doesn't care about the gender of the name. (Sinion is a male name.)

Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration of these submissions.
