(Fieldless) A tower per pale azure and gules.

The name was registered July 2006.

The client uses elements and tinctures of her registered device, Per chevron azure and gules, three dogwood blossoms one and two and a tower argent.

2. Antoinette Isabeau du Dauphiné: NEW DEVICE

Azure, on a pale wavy sable fimbriated between two dolphins haurient respectant three fleurs-de-lys argent.

The name was registered March 2009.

3. Dalla of the Misty Forest: NEW DEVICE CHANGE

Per pall argent, azure and vert, in pale a stag's attires sable and a tree eradicated argent.

The name was registered November 2004.

If this new submission is registered, the client wishes to retain her current device Per pall argent, azure and vert, in pale an arrow fesswise sable and a tree eradicated argent., as a badge.

4. Elnor Howard: NEW NAME and DEVICE

Per fess azure and Or, three hawks' lures in fess Or and a hawk striking gules.

The name is English.

Elnor is a female given name multiply dated to 1567, 1573, 1574, 1577 and 1585 in “Names found in Minchinhampton, Glouchestershire Marriage Registers 1566-1600,” Aryanhwy merch Catmael ( http://heraldry.sca.org/names/english/minchinhampton.html ).

Howard is an English surname, dated 1565-6 for Viscount Howard of Bindon (Reaney and Wilsom, 3rd edition, p. 241 s.n. Howard); it is also the client's legal surname.

The client desires a female name and is most interested in the spelling of the name.

5. Els Wolffleinin: NEW NAME and DEVICE

Azure, a bend sinister vert fimbriated between an otter statant and two escallops argent.

The name is German.

Els is a female given name found over 100 times in “German Names from 1495,” Aryanhwy merch Catmael ( http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/german/german1495.html ).

Wolfflein is a surname found in “German Names from Nürnberg, 1497: Surnames N – Z,” Sara L. Uckelman ( http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/german/surnamesnurnn-z.html ). In “Women's Surnames in 15th- and 16th-Century Germany,” Sara L. Uckelman ( http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/german/womenssurnames.html ), it is noted that to feminize a masculine surname, the suffix -in is added, hence Wolffleinin.

The client desires a female name and is most interested in the language/culture of the name (German). She will not take Major changes to the name.

6. John Fair of Hawkwode: NEW DEVICE

Per bend sinister Or and argent, a bend sinister gules between a hawk close contourny guardant and three oak trees eradicated proper.

The name was registered July 2006.

According to the default tincture chart in the CoA Glossary, the "proper" falcon is brown. I suspect that this would apply to a hawk as well (this also preserves the cant on his name). The talons are sable, along with the tips of the large wing and tail feathers, but this might be considered artistic license.

7. John Fair of Hawkwode: NEW BADGE

Vert, a hunting horn argent and in chief an arrow fesswise Or.

The name was registered July 2006.

8. Tabitha de Pengelly: NEW NAME and DEVICE

Argent, three penguins statant affronty heads to dexter sable bellied argent and on a chief purpure a cat couchant Or.

The name is English.

Tabitha is a female name, the Aramaic equivalent of Dorcas, “gazelle, roe,” and both are given to the charitable woman who was raised up by St. Peter; both name were common in the 17th C (Withycombe, 3rd edition s.n. John de Pengelly is dated to 1297 in Reaney and Wilson, 3rd edition, s.n. Pengelly, as a locative meaning from Pengelly, Wales. There is 299 years between the dated examples of by name and given name.

The client desires a female name and is most interested in the sound of the name.

The blazon for the penguins is taken from the device of Irena Rshtuni, registered June 2007, Argent goutty de sang, a penguin statant affronty head to dexter sable bellied argent and in chief two bars purpure. The use of a penguin as a charge one step from period practice.

9. Thome Spyle Syngere: DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, July 2008

Per pale raguly sable and argent, a skeleton statant facing to sinister maintaining a recorder and a skeleton statant to dexter maintaining a lute, all counterchanged.

The name was registered July 2008.

The original submission, Per pale sable and argent, a skeleton statant facing to sinister maintaining a recorder and a skeleton statant to dexter maintaining a lute, all counterchanged., was returned “as it appears to be impaled arms. As ruled in the December 2007 Cover Letter, "if a divided field contains the same type of charge in each portion, and those charges maintain the same [type] of charge, then the maintained charges do not contribute to the appearance of marshalling." The ruling goes on to give a counter-example of Quarterly sable and argent, in bend a lion Or maintaining a sword argent and a lion Or maintaining a halberd argent, where the different types of maintained charges do yield the appearance of marshalling. Similarly, in the submitted device, although the primary charges on either side of the per pale line are the same type (skeletons), their maintained charges differ. Thus, the maintained charges do contribute to the appearance of marshalling and are cause for return of the device.”

Using a complex line of division resolves this problem.

10. Tvoislava Michelovna: NEW BADGE

Per bend sinister argent and argent goutty de larmes, on a bend sinister azure three roses argent and in chief a theaded needle bendwise sinister inverted sable.

The name was registered in October 2002.

The design is a little busy and the roses a little small, but everything still seems recognizable and reasonable.

11. Vésteinn Þorkelsson: NEW DEVICE

Gyronny arrondi gules and argent, a wolf passant sable with a bordure sable semy of Thor's hammers argent.

The name was registered in April 2008.

Consider Grace of Fairhaven: Checky argent and gules, a wolf passant within a bordure sable. There's 1 CD for changes to the field and 1 CD for adding the charges to the bordure.

I was assisted in the preparation of this Letter of Intent by Bjorn mjoksiglandi, Helena de Argentoune, Maridonna Benvenuti and Sine Fergusson of Kintyre.
